Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Document & Litigation Paralegal
Reports to: General Counsel
Department: Legal Department
Job Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
Perform secretarial and administrative duties as directed and support the day to day functions throughout Legal Services including assistance to the Staff Counsel-Litigation, the Litigation Manager, and Director of Compliance. Additionally, provide support to the General Counsel and Administrative Assistant as requested. Coordinate and support response to corporate discovery requests throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Perform secretarial duties and support functions in Legal Services as requested, particularly in the performance of the duties of the Director of Compliance, Staff Counsel– Litigation and Litigation Manager.
• Provide back-up assistance to the General Counsel and Administrative Assistant/Paralegal when needed or requested.
• Provide administrative support to and provide backup support to all the functional areas of legal services.
• Provide support to the litigation function of legal services.
• Maintain and organize the function of corporate discovery requests as directed.
• Maintain, organize and coordinate corporate litigation as directed.
• Provide organization of litigated file documents.
• Facilitate the acquiring of the documents throughout the company in response to discovery or in preparation of litigation.
• Handle subpoenas at direction of Counsel.
• Assist in preparation of corporate documents for trial.
• Compose and prepare correspondence and issue letters.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining various departmental records and files.
• Maintain good relations within the company and the public.
• Represent legal services in a positive and professional manner.
• Good organizational skills.
• Regular, predictable attendance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide courteous, helpful response to all requests for assistance.
• Receive and screen telephone calls, correspondence and outside visitors.
• Transcribe correspondence as required.
• Maintain general filing system.
• Process incoming and outgoing mail.
• Update various legal publications.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A combination of formal education, training and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by an experienced person with a two year college degree or more.
• Paralegal degree is required, either at time of application or to be obtained after employment as agreed upon.
• Excellent knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, and Westlaw.
• Accurate typing required.
• Machine transcription required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• Good human relations skills and self-motivation required.
• Ability to act in a confidential manner and to make numerous and timely decisions.
• Previous experience in a legal office desirable, particularly in discovery document management.
