Claim Adjuster
Kentucky Farm Bureau

Job Title: Claim Adjuster
Reports to: District Claims Manager
Department: Claims
Section: Claim Office
Job Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
The claim adjuster provides prompt, courteous and fair claim service to policyholders and claimants within the assigned claims territory. All job activities should be carried out in a professional manner consistent with company policy and supervisory instruction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Review loss reports, and confirm coverages.
2. Conduct prompt and thorough investigations of losses.
3. Promptly evaluate and resolve claims through settlement or denial.
4. Visit agency offices on an assigned basis.
5. Actively pursue salvage and subrogation recovery.
6. Report claims as required by claim manual or by supervisory personnel.
7. Assign and control out-of-state claims.
8. Maintain adequate reserves.
9. Maintain claim files and update as needed.
10. Document claim files to support actions taken. (See claim manual)
11. Participate and assist with litigated claims.
12. Maintain current knowledge of policy contracts, court decisions, and industry trends.
13. Handle claims in compliance with statutes, regulations, and case law.
14. Complete assignments.
15. Maintain ability to function as a claim adjuster.
16. Serve as a catastrophe team member or assist in other claim offices or locations as required.
17. Regular, predictable attendance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist and cooperate with Kentucky Farm Bureau and Agency Personnel.
2. Promptly respond to complaints.
3. Report immediately receipt of all summonses.
4. Report incorrectly rated policies or poor risks to Underwriting Department.
5. Review claim inventory reports, make needed adjustments immediately, and provide initialed copy to district claim manager on a monthly basis.
6. Submit timely and accurate expense reports to district claim manager.
7. Attend and participate in company claim meetings, seminars, and continuing education activities.
8. Maintain and properly use company facilities, equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
9. Follow company guidelines related to personal use of company vehicles.

1. Kentucky Farm Bureau and Agency Personnel.
2. Insureds, claimants and general public.
3. Legal, medical, vendors, and other providers of service.
4. Police and Fire Department personnel.
5. Kentucky Department of Insurance and other regulatory agencies.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Experience and Education:

MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
1. Combination of formal education, training, and experience to acquire knowledge and skills generally equivalent to those possessed by a four-year college graduate. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Ability to interpret policy contracts and legal documents.
3. Complete Associate Claim Adjuster requirements.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
2. Ability to make timely decisions.
3. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
4. Good negotiation and public relations skills.
5. Two years above satisfactory performance as an Associate Claim Adjuster.
6. Demonstrates positive and supportive attitude.
