JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the chief financial officer of the organization and is responsible for all financial and fiscal aspects of company operations, including the accounting, tax, budget, forecasting, payroll, investment, external reporting, treasury management, actuarial and reinsurance functions. This position also serves as Treasurer of the organization and is responsible to the Board of Directors as outlined in the corporate by-laws. This position also supports the organization in its overall development and support of strategic objectives, including the financial considerations related to those objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Implement the strategic mission of the Accounting/Finance functions as they relate to the corporate strategy and goals of the organization.
• Ensure that the Accounting/Finance functions operate in a legal, consistent, efficient, ethical and compliant manner as it relates to all activities.
• Develop and maintain an efficient, functional based organizational structure, with quality staff and procedures, to effectively and efficiently implement the objectives of accounting/finance.
• Develop and maintain a staff that is professional, service oriented and well trained, including career paths and opportunities for growth and development of staff.
• Act as a professional role model for employees by exhibiting the KFB Leadership Traits. Expect the same of the management team, including the expectation that the team will act in a unified manner.
• Responsible for the oversight of the receipt and safekeeping, in the name of the Company, of all monies and securities belonging to the Company and for the deposit of and safekeeping in depositories designated by the Board of Directors.
• Shall have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the company.
• Shall be responsible for giving receipts for monies due and payable to the company from any source whatsoever.
• Shall deposit all such monies in the name of the company in such banks, trust companies, or other depositories as shall be selected in accordance with the provisions of the by-laws.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory financial information filing requirements (i.e., statutory accounting principles, federal, state and local laws and regulations on taxation, state regulations on property and casualty insurers), corporate policies and operating procedures.
• Ensure that the company has strong internal control measures over the financial reporting process.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of corporate financial results to Board and management.
• Provide oversight for financial audits by the company’s independent accounting firm or any governmental agencies. Meet with audit teams to review the results and recommendations of the audit and take any merited corrective action.
• Work closely with the company’s audit committee and will also be responsible for the oversight of the company’s relationships with banks, lending institutions and independent audit firms.
• Oversee the RFP process for consideration and selection of the Board approved independent auditing firm, as requested by the audit committee.
• Participate in the departmental and corporate planning process, with responsibility for meeting Accounting and Finance plans and objectives. Work closely with the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer on the generation of strategic ideas and the creation of integrated strategies. Implement corporate strategy in regard to financial applications.
• Provide oversight and direction for the Company’s investment strategy and report quarterly to the Finance Committee.
• Review performance and compliance of the company’s invested assets.
• Oversee the actuarial and reinsurance functions of the company.
• Review and analyze the corporate budget and report results to the CEO, COO and the Board of Directors.
• Oversee the company’s payroll function and ensure strong internal controls over the payroll function. Ensure compliance with Wage and Hour statutes.
• Oversee payment of commissions and other payments to independent contractor agency managers and agents.
• Review and approve all reinsurance agreements and contracts.
• Assess the impact of all corporate reinsurance agreements on the company’s financial results on a regular basis, at least annually.
• Perform all the duties normally incident to the office of Treasurer and such other duties as may be assigned by the president or board of directors.
• Regular, predictable attendance.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITES
• Work with the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Vice Presidents to develop the strategic mission of accounting/finance.
• Develop and implement plans, including a “gap” analysis, to accomplish the strategic mission for accounting/finance. This should include cascaded strategy maps, with accompanying measures and targets.
• Work with other functional areas, to coordinate activities and responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner, including service level expectations for all accounting/finance personnel.
• Oversee management of the daily activities of accounting/finance in accordance with agreed upon objectives and goals, with an ongoing emphasis on reliable and timely service to all stakeholders.
• Annually prepare and file a Managements’ Discussion and Analysis Report with the appropriate regulatory authorities.
• Conduct regular departmental staff meetings and promote effective communication within the department and within the company.
• Perform regular and thorough performance evaluations on direct reports.
• Develop and implement a succession roadmap for accounting/finance so an ample supply of future leaders is available for promotional opportunity.
• Require cost/benefit analysis for appropriate decisions, including regular evaluation of expenses incurred and opportunities to effectively manage expenses.
• Attend board meetings and any related activities to represent the Accounting and Finance function, give any requested reports and answer questions.
• Attend meetings and business functions normally attended by a Vice President or requested by the Executive Vice President or Chief Operating Officer.
• Keep abreast of trends in the industry and developing practices that may impact the organization. This should include specific ongoing personal and professional growth activities.
• Regular, predictable attendance.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
• Graduate degree (e.g. MBA) or professional certification (e.g. CPA, CFA) preferred.
• Insurance accounting/finance background with minimum ten years’ experience, including managing an accounting/finance department or group.
• Exceptional people skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, business users and executive management.
• Outstanding presentation and written skills to effectively lead and communicate to a wide range of professionals and stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of accounting/finance best practices, methodologies, tools, etc.
