Systems Programmer 2 (SQL)

Job Title: Systems Programmer 2
Reports to: Distributed Systems Manager
Department: Information Technology
Section: Distributed Systems
Job Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the Distributed Systems team the Systems Programmer 2 will work directly with KFB project teams and team leads in designing, deploying, and supporting KFB’s growing MS SQL infrastructure. The SQL infrastructure is becoming increasingly business critical requiring high levels of skill and experience to ensure high system performance and constant availability. This is a high level hands-on technical position working with the development and infrastructure teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Will install, configure and administer SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases on Windows 2003 Enterprise servers (32bit and 64bit) in a high availability environment.
• Analyze current systems software, propose modifications, and conduct approved modifications to enhance the operating environment.
• Perform data modeling in conjunction with the development team and business analysts.
• Create, monitor and test SQL maintenance/backup plans.
• Participate in and execute annual business continuity and disaster recovery tests.
• Design and manage database security.
• Create, tune, and optimize stored procedures.
• Create, tune, and optimize DTS packages.
• Analyze new and modified software in relation to installation requirements.
• Implement new systems software and modifications without adverse effects on current production, test, and development activities.
• Establish standards for development, maintenance and use SQL related software.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge about systems software supplied by the manufacturer.
• Investigate and recommend new software tools and solutions.
• Improve and maintain systems documentation.
• Understand and follow change control procedures designed to protect the production environments from unplanned risk.
• Assist in training other team members, especially junior team members, in growing the knowledge of MS SQL and the SQL environments.
• On-call support of production systems.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree (preferably in statistics, mathematics, accounting, computer sciences).
• Formal training in Microsoft SQL 2000/2005 server.
• Deep experience using advanced features of SQL Server including trace flags, blocking issue resolution, performance tuning, and will have directly managed and administered large databases (150GB+) with millions of rows.
• Three or more years of hands-on Microsoft SQL experience.
• Production experience tuning SQL performance at both the infrastructure and application levels.
• Above average written and verbal communications.
• High ethics verifiable work experience in security and/or information sensitive environment.
