Additional Information/Benefits Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be 21 years of age or over. Must possess a valid driver's license. Verification of age, birth certificate or citizenship papers, DD214 if former military, education and driver's license must be included with completed application.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them. Misdemeanor convictions, traffic violations, illegal drug use, possession and, buying and selling will be considered on an individual basis. Must pass a pre-employment medical/stress examination. Must pass a test for drug detection. Must take a pre-employment written and oral psychological evaluation. Must take a pre-employment polygraph examination. Must pass a pre-employment physical agility test. Must not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm. Must have received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions if having served in any branch of the armed forces of the United States. Must not have had certification as a peace officer permanently revoked in another state. Must work a varied work schedule.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Physically counts inmates in an assigned area. Observes conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances, escapes, forbidden activities, introduction on contraband, and rule violations. Evaluates and determines intoxication level of individuals and contacts medical staff to render first aid and administer presecription medicine. Oversees the serving of meals to inmates confined to their quarters. Inspects doors, locks, gates, window bars for evidence of tampering; uses keys to open, close and lock doors and gates. Handcuffs, shackles or further restrains inmates and escorts them to a dorm court, work assignments, visitation, recreation areas, medical facilities, and other locations within the facilities. Guards inmates in transit from temporary holding locations, hospitals and other correctional facilities. Renders aid to other officers in emergency situations, restrains and subdues inmates and documents disturbances and significant occurrences. Accepts custody of arrested persons from officers; frisks and searches inmates and their living quarters for contraband and weapons; and remands persons into the custody of the correctional facility. Issues and maintains inventory of keys, radios, pagers, weapons and emergency riot equipment. Prepares forms and reports on inmate activity and behavior. Performs related work.
